In the final voting for Office Open XML(OOXML)

A Request to ISO JTC-1 Korean Member Body

This signature-seeking campaign is to request technical consideration and voting for the final ECMA 376 Office Open XML(OOXML) specification of ISO JTC-1.

Last year, we already gave petetion campaign signed 1,000 people that Korean member body voted to "No" against OOXML by as following reasons.

• The OOXML has already alternative standards.
• The OOXML is incomplete and specific platform dependant.
• The OOXML is limited by 3rd party implementation because of obscure patent policy.
• The OOXML will limit software development environment based on various platform as like Linux, Mac OS etc.

So Korean MB voted "No" and gave 23 comments against OOXML spec. We agree and request as followings to Korean MB in time of final voting of ISO JTC-1 standard process.

1. We agree Korean MB's comments against OOXML.

Korean MB suggested four things to be fixed in summary.

1. The OOXML should provide a faithful interoperability for ISO/IEC 26300(ODF) not by plug-in translators but by DIS 29500 itself, as it does for the legacy binary format.
2. The OOXML should support various platforms and browsers such as Linux, FireFox, Opera and Safari.
3. The OOXML shold decribe the details of application behaviours of 12 thing in Part 5.11 ,’Application-Defined Extension Elements”
4. The OOXML should use the existing standards and remove VML and DrawingML.

2. We request Korean MB should consider as followings before final voting.

We want for Korean MB to consider not political final specification but technical.

1. The OOXML should be adapted by Korean MB's comments in last year.
2. Korean MB should consider OOXML's final standard only technically.
3. If OOXML is not adapted to Korean MB's comments, they should vote "No" too.
